Sports Injury & Physiotherapy Clinic

Career
Starting in 2011 and initially completing hospital rotations in NHS Lothian, Craig went on to become a static musculoskeletal physiotherapist at St John’s Hospital in Livingston. This included a wealth of referrals from post-surgery, GP, self-referrals as well as working within the regional hand injury unit. In addition to this he worked part-time in the youth academy at Heart of Midlothian Football Club from 2010, becoming Head Academy Physiotherapist for the under 11 – under 17 squads in 2012.

In 2014 he left both roles to work full-time for St Johnstone Football Club, primarily with the under-20 and first team squads. In 2016 he rejoined Heart of Midlothian on a full-time basis, continuing to work there for 9 years in total, 5 years of which as Head Physiotherapist for the men’s first team between 2020 and 2025. This work included regular interactions with world-renowned orthopaedic specialists throughout the UK, as well as close multi-disciplinary team working alongside football coaches, GP’s, radiologists, strength and conditioning coaches, sport scientists, nutritionists and a podiatrist.

Approach

Craig approaches all new patients with a thorough assessment of the individual’s history, current problems and goals from treatment. Assessments range from traditional orthopaedic testing to utilising a range of strength and function-based measurements. He aims to clearly explain findings and offer realistic expectations about treatment from an early stage. He values patient-centred care that combines evidence-based practice, knowledge and experience into a pragmatic treatment plan.

Interests

With two young children, Craig enjoys spending free time with them and growing up for a second time. His sporting hobbies are primarily football and golf, however he spent a large part of his youth playing tennis and badminton as well. He recently completed the Edinburgh half marathon and likes to stay active outside of work.
